Cartoon Network At The Children’s Media Conference 2018

Today (04/07/2017) was the second day of the 2018 Children’s Media Conference in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, UK, an annual conference where the British children’s media industry gather, all forms of media aimed at young audiences including film, TV, radio, interactive media, games, licensing, toys and book and magazine publishing are represented at the conference. This year’s conference is being held between Tuesday 3rd July and Thursday 5th July. Turner’s Cartoon Network and Boomerang are this year’s bag sponsor for this year’s conference and have been giving away special Cartoon Network 25th anniversary bags to attendees, Cartoon Network UK will celebrate its 25th anniversary on 17th September this year.

The conference is a chance for creatives and business leaders to discuss what’s happening in the industry including both threats and opportunities, promote their content, introduce new shows and products and to exchange new ideas. As with previous years, Turner UK is at the conference again and are sponsoring the event using their Cartoon Network and Boomerang television channel brands. A vast majority of events relating to Cartoon Network will be running at the conference tomorrow (Thursday 5th July), representatives from Turner UK (and the greater EMEA area) will be speaking at the conference, today (4th July) was mostly about the use of technology to distribute content rather than the content itself.

Today (4th July), Marc Goodchild, Head of Digital Content Strategy & Product at Turner EMEA was present at three different sessions – Behind the Screens at YouTube Kids, Big Lessons from Niche Memes and Technology – What’s Next?. Behind the Screens at YouTube Kids discussed the use of YouTube’s YouTube Kids video service to distribute child-friendly content. Big Lessons from Niche Memes discussed the use of internet memes (widespread internet jokes) and how it can be used as a form of marketing that will appeal to young people. The “Technology – What’s Next?” session was mostly about the use of smartphones and tablets, AR (Augmented Reality), toys-to-life and voice-powered home assistants and how they can be used for entertainment. Also today, Sophie Deen (CEO, Bright Little Labs) was moderating a session – “Learning – What’s Happening?”, which talked about the best ways to educate children both in and out the classroom. Turner EMEA made an equity investment in Bright Little Labs last month, the company produces educational material that focuses on computer coding with the use of the character – Detective Dot, through the investment, the company can now utilise Cartoon Network’s portfolio in its educational material.

Today, Sarah was also at the What a Relief! session, which talked about the use of UK tax relief to help lower the cost of production for animation, children’s TV, film and video games.

The purpose of the Commissioner Conversations event is to find out what Turner EMEA (Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Boing, Cartoonito, Toonix and Toonami) are looking for in terms of content and the speed meetings session will be a good opportunity to talk about animation projects.

Sky Kids App Now Available For Smartphones Watch Cartoon Network And Boomerang Shows On The Go

British satellite pay-TV broadcaster – Sky has now adapted their Sky Kids app for smartphone devices. Sky Kids is a VOD (Video on-demand) app for children’s television content, which also includes animated shows from Turner’s Cartoon Network and Boomerang. The app offers a child friendly environment with age appropriate programming. As the app is now compatible with smartphones (with exception to games and downloads at the moment, this is only accessible on tablets), it’s now easier to watch shows on the go without the need for a tablet.

The Sky Kids app is free to all Sky customers who already have the children’s channels as part of their subscription, the app offers an ad-free family-friendly environment and access to over thousands of episodes from Sky’s most popular children’s channels including Cartoon Network, Disney Junior, Boomerang, Nickelodeon and many more.

Irish Animation Studio Salty Dog Pictures To Help Animate New Flintstones Spin-Off Yabba-Dabba Dinosaurs!

Warner Bros. Animation is working with Dublin, Ireland based animation studio – Salty Dog Pictures to help produce the new spin-off series based on Hanna-Barbera’s The Flintstones – Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs!.

In the brand new series, Pebbles, Bamm-Bamm and Dino go on an adventure outside Bedrock and head out to the open wilderness inhabited by dinosaurs and giant beasts. In the open wilderness, they meet and help new friends, meet and fight new enemies and learn lessons about life. The brand new show is a quarter-hour comedy series produced by Mark Marek (MAD) and Marly Halpern-Graser (Right Now Kapow) with Sam Register as executive producer, the new show will premiere on the Boomerang app in the United States in 2019. Salty Dog Pictures will be providing overseas animation services for the new show.

Salty Dog Pictures recently worked on the Saturday Night Live animation – The David S Pumpkins Halloween Special and the studio is currently developing its first animated sitcom – The Mooneys, which is a futuristic comedy about an Irish-American family who move to a moon colony. Other productions by the studio include The Travels of The Young Marco Polo and Brewster the Rooster. The studio currently has two animated shows in production – The Petal People and P.A.L.S. (Paper Airplane Lions Squad).

Boomerang UK New Show The Adventures Of Puss In Boots Premieres Tomorrow 3rd September

The famous Puss in Boots from Dreamworks Animation’s Shrek movie franchise (and spinoff movie – Puss In Boots) returns for more fearless swashbuckling adventures in The Adventures of Puss in Boots. The world’s greatest fighter, lover (and milk connoisseur) springs to action in new episodes with mystical, comical tales that take him to exotic locations. Puss is also joined by unforgettable characters including Dulinea his love interest, The Great Mage Sino and Señora Zapata.

In the new show, Puss fights off invaders to protect the village of San Lorenzo, a place that used to be hidden, but Puss unintentionally broke the spell that protected the village and its legendary mystic treasure from the outside world, to make amends, Puss will have to find a way to restore the town’s protection cloak to hide the village.

In the show, Puss is voiced by talented voice actor Eric Bauza (Belly Bag from Uncle Grandpa; Hoppus, King Rexxtopher from Mighty Magiswords and also Bugs Bunny, Tweety and Daffy Duck in the new and upcoming Looney Tunes Cartoons series plus many more).

The Adventures of Puss in Boots premieres tomorrow (Monday 3rd September) at 5pm on Boomerang UK and Ireland, and new episodes air weekdays at 5pm.

Boomerang UK Rebranded Today 3rd September 2018

The summer holidays are over and its time for kids around the UK to go back to school, but the good news is that from today (Monday 3rd September) – Boomerang UK has a brand new look!. Boomerang UK is now using a brand new graphics package based on the cartoon character “Boomerang Logo Button Press” bumpers the channel has been airing lately. All existing promos have been adapted to the new rebrand and the backgrounds of the bumpers and promo endboards now have a diagonal dotted grid that slightly contrasts (but yet still visible) from the main background colour and also rounded panels. Also, from today, Boomerang UK has a brand new show – The Adventures of Puss in Boots which premiered at 5pm today.

The continuity video below contains all the Next/Later/Now bumpers, character bumpers (including button press, character finger poke, and character mix-and-match bumpers) and also ECPs (End Credits Promotions) from a large chunk of this afternoon, the continuity also includes the moment when The Adventures of Puss In Boots premiered today on Boomerang UK.

Boomerang UK’s website has also been updated, it now features the rounded corners and dotted background look as shown on the channel.

Boomerang Buys International Broadcasting Rights To Mush-Mush And The Mushables Coming Soon In 2020

Turner’s classic and contemporary animation channel – Boomerang has acquired the rights to a brand new CGI-animated adventure comedy series called “Mush-Mush and the Mushables”. The brand new show follows the adventures of a community of lovable mushrooms. The new show will air on international versions of Boomerang as well as other Turner-owned children’s channels such as Cartoon Network, Boing and POGO in selected markets from 2020.

The brand new show is created by Flemish artist Elfriede de Rooster and the show is produced by La Cabane Productions in France as well as Thuristar in Belgium (the same studio behind Boomerang’s My Knight and Me), London-based CAKE Entertainment is distributing the new series. The show is produced by Perrine Gauthier and directed by Joeri Christiaen (the creator of My Knight & Me), in initial batch of episodes there will be a total of 52 episodes with a runtime of 11 minutes each.

Broadcasting rights to Mush-Mush And The Mushables has already been purchased by Canal+ and Piwi+ in France; VRT-Ketnet and RTBF-OUFtivi in Belgium; RTS in Switzerland; and RTL Telekids in the Netherlands.

The chief commercial officer and managing director of CAKE Entertainment – Ed Galton, made this statement in regards of the new series:

“We are delighted to be teaming up with Turner on the forthcoming Mush-Mush and the Mushables. Perrine, Joeri and their team are bringing to life the original drawings to create an engaging, warmhearted series about a community of lovable mushrooms and their funny adventures that children everywhere will enjoy.”

Boomerang Nordic Has Rebranded

Boomerang Nordic (broadcasts to Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland) also rebranded on the same day as Boomerang Central Eastern Europe (1st October), the Nordic version uses a similar graphics package to the UK and Central Eastern Europe versions and uses next/later bumpers similar to the Central Eastern Europe version. Also just like Boomerang UK and Boomerang CEE, the backgrounds of the bumpers now have a diagonal dotted grid and various other patterns.

Cartoon Network At MIPJunior 2018

Today is the opening day of the annual MIPJunior convention at the JW Marriott Hotel in Cannes, France. The convention is a yearly gathering of the international children’s media industry and is an opportunity to promote their programming and even to buy and sell broadcasting rights to and from other broadcasters. MIPJunior is a two day long side event (13th and 14th October) of the annual MIPCOM convention (French acronym for Marché International des Programmes de Communication, In English: International Market of Communications Programmes), which focuses on general entertainment and other genres usually aimed towards adults. MIPCOM will also take place in Cannes, France from Monday 15th to Thursday 18th October. MIPJunior is usually a major event for Cartoon Network. The event is more focused towards media industry professionals which is unlike a more public pop-culture convention like San Diego Comic-Con, New York Comic-Con or MCM Comic-Con London.

Today (15th October), Turner’s Boomerang International and French animation studio – Cyber Group Studios (made in association with France Télévisions) will premiere their first animated co-production – “Taffy” at the MIPCOM media convention in Cannes, France.

The show’s world premiere will be held during a session at MIPCOM called “The Making of a Modern Classic” (Monday 15th October, 12.30pm at the Majestic). During the presentation, Pierre Sissmann and Mike de Seve (Co-Creators of Taffy), Ahmed Guerrouache (Director) and representatives from the show’s main original broadcast partners, Patricia Hidalgo (Chief Content Officer, Turner EMEA and International Kids Strategy) and Tiphaine de Raguenel (Executive Director of France 4 / Director of Children & Youth Activities, France Télévisions) will be introducing the new animated series and will be sharing their motivation behind the Hanna-Barbera inspired show.

In Taffy, a billionaire old lady named Mrs Muchmore takes in a raccoon imposter posing as a cat named Taffy, this leads to slapstick mayhem for Mrs. Muchmore’s pet dog – Bentley. In each episode, Bentley tries to expose Taffy for what he is, but Taffy outsmarts him on his every move and causes nothing but chaos and disaster in the process. As a result of the mess, poor Bentley always gets the blame. Both Taffy and Bentley live a luxurious lifestyle in a large mansion, they travel around the world and meet important people – including the President, but no matter where they go and who they meet will never stop their endless battle of complete mayhem.

Everyday during December one of Boomerang’s cartoon characters will pop-up on-screen, to enter the competition visit http://www.boomerangtv.co.uk/christmas and select the character you’ve seen appear in the bottom right corner of the screen today on the competition page’s advent calendar. Boomerang UK will be giving away a different prize everyday up until Sunday 23rd December and between Christmas Eve (Monday 24th December) and New Year’s Day (Tuesday 1st January 2019), Boomerang will be having one big competition for one lucky viewer to win a prize bundle. For this year’s competition, Boomerang has partnered with Warner Bros. and fancy dress company – Rubie’s.

Daily competitions close at midnight, UK and Ireland residents only, entrants under the age of 18 must have parental permission, full terms and conditions can be read via the link on the competition form.
