Dorothy And The Wizard Of Oz And Wacky Racers To Air On Boomerang Feeds Outside United States

Today (20/03/2017), Turner announced that two new animated shows from Warner Bros. Animation are heading to Boomerang. Both Wacky Racers and Dorothy And The Wizard Of Oz will air on Boomerang’s international feeds, but in the United States, both shows will be an OTT (Over-The-Top) VOD (Video On Demand) exclusive on Boomerang’s brand new streaming service instead of Boomerang USA’s linear channel.

Dorothy & The Wizard of Oz is described as a comedy fantasy series based on the classic L. Frank Baum book series and the classic timeless 1939 MGM movie, the new animated adventures follows Dorothy and her friends, the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow in the Land of Oz. The new animated show is set after the defeat of the Wicked Witch of the West; essentially an animated sequel to the movie.

Wacky Racers is a rebooted version of the late-1960’s Hanna-Barbara animated comedy classic, featuring reworked versions of Penelope Pitstop, Peter Perfect, the Ant Hill Mob, the Gruesome Twosome and antagonists Dick Dastardly and Muttley, also the series will feature a bunch of new racers. Wacky Racers isn’t just any ordinary racing show, each race car has a different theme and has unique racewinning abilities.

Patricia Hidalgo, chief content officer of EMEA kids & international kids strategy at Turner stated that the addition of these two new shows will help strengthen Boomerang, which is considered to be their second flagship animation channel.

The Powerpuff Girls Airing On Boomerang UK From 3rd April

From tomorrow (03/04/2017), Boomerang UK and Ireland will start airing episodes from the 2016 reboot version of Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls. The show is about three girls with superpowers named Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup and Professor Utonium, their creator and father. The superheroic girls help to tackle crime in Townsville, beat up supervillains and protect the city from monsters and destruction.

Episodes of The Powerpuff Girls will air every weekday at 2pm on Boomerang UK.

Ian McDonough Head Of Turner UK And Nordics To Leave The Company

In a statement released today (11/04/2017) from Turner, it has been announced that Ian McDonough, the Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Turner Northern Europe (UK and Nordics) will be leaving the company. Ian oversaw all of Turner’s UK and Scandinavian operations, which includes Cartoon Network, Boomerang, TCM, Cartoonito in the UK and TNT in Scandinavia. Ian took on the role of regional manager in 2014, back then, Turner’s UK operations were split off from the Southern Europe part of the business (France, Italy, Spain and Africa) and joined up with the company’s Scandinavian operations forming the new Northern Europe region.

In the last few months, there has been some changes, in February, Turner UK sold its general entertainment channel – TruTV (launched in 2014) to Sony Pictures Television so it can focus on its core children’s and classic movie TV channel brands, also recently, the company has made a investment in digital services including the acquisition of Bigballs Media, the world’s largest independent football media business.

In the meantime, Giorgio Stock, the president of Turner EMEA will be overseeing the Northern Europe part of the business until a new manager is hired.

Upon Ian’s notice of resignation, Turner released this statement:

“Ian McDonough has taken the decision to leave Turner. Ian has steered the Northern Europe business during a period of fast-paced change and leaves the Turner channels portfolio in great shape. We have a strong and experienced management team in place who will run the day to day operation reporting into Giorgio Stock, president EMEA, who will be directly overseeing the Northern Europe business while we find the right candidate to lead the region going forward.”

Boomerang UK National Pet Month 2017 Study

According to a study conducted by the Boomerang UK TV channel for this year’s National Pet Month, Dads are more likely than mums to post videos and photos of their pets on social media. Also according to the study, 64% of families in larger households take hilarious and adorable photos and videos of their pet at least once a day. Half of parents (50.5%) allow their children to watch animal-related programming because animal shows bring happiness and laughter.

Boomerang is a TV channel is known not only for its mix of classic and contemporary animation but also for its animal cartoon characters, the channel is home to some of the UK’s most loved animated characters, Scooby-Doo (No. 1 in the UK) and Tom and Jerry (No. 3 in the UK) and also for its Pet of the Week promotion, where viewers can upload videos and photos of their pets on the Boomerang UK website for the opportunity to see their pet on TV. Also the study found that a quarter of parents and kids name their pet after a character from a cartoon or film.

In a pet “wishlist” survey with kids aged twelve and under, dogs came in first with 44.4% of the vote, followed by cats (28.6%), horses (19.2%), elephants (15.6%) and finally, bears (13.9%).

The most famous mum on the planet, Kim Kardashian, may be the Queen of the selfie, but a recent study from Boomerang TV channel in the UK found that dads were the expert at snapping photos and videos of their pets for some quick likes on social media. The study found that 64.4% of families in larger households take hilarious and adorable photos and videos of their pet at least once a day, with dads more likely than mums to document their pets’ interactions.

Boomerang, the proud channel home of world-renowned animal characters like Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo and Bugs Bunny, released the results to coincide with National Pet Month in the UK and highlight the starring role animals play within families both on and off-screen.

With just over half of parents citing laughter and happiness among the primary reasons for letting their children watch animal-related programming (50.5%), it also came as no surprise that Scooby-Doo ranked number one amongst kids’ all-time favourite cartoon characters, followed by Peppa Pig in second place and Tom and Jerry in third. Furthermore, the study found that a quarter of parents and kids make the decision to name their beloved pet animal after a character from a cartoon or film.

Boomerang UK The ZhuZhus New Show Premieres Tomorrow 2nd May

From tomorrow (02/05/2017), Boomerang UK will be premiere a brand new animated show – The ZhuZhus, the show is about a gang of walking and talking hamsters with unique personalities, and their owner, an 8-year-old girl named Frankie. The unofficial leader of The ZhuZhus is Pipsqueak, who has a sense of adventure. Mr. Squiggles is the cleverest one in the group and has a passion for science, Num Nums is the most cautious and sensitive one of the group, but always looks out for her friends and last but not least is Chunk, a hamster with a large appetite and is considered to be the funniest ZhuZhu.

The ZhuZhus will premiere on Boomerang UK and Ireland tomorrow at 6.30pm, new episodes will daily at 6.30pm.

Dorothy And The Wizard of Oz And Wacky Races To Air On Boomerang’s International Channels From June 2017

Today (11/05/2017), Turner International has announced that Dorothy And The Wizard of Oz and the new Wacky Racers reboot will premiere on Boomerang’s international channels starting from June this year. In the United States, both shows are exclusive to the brand new Boomerang streaming service which launched this April.

Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz is an animated series by Warner Bros. Animation, the show is a fantasy-comedy series based on the literary works of L. Frank Baum, one of his children’s novels – The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was adapted into a movie – The Wizard Of Oz, the film became an all-time classic. The events in the new series takes place after Dorothy and her friends defeated the Wicked Witch of the West. In the show, Queen Ozma appoints Dorothy as the Princess of Emerald City, a role with a lot of responsibility especially as there are witches, wizards, munchkins, flying monkeys and a plethora of mythical creatures to deal with, also magic falling into the wrong hands is a disaster waiting to happen. For Dorothy, life in the Kansas countryside was a lot simpler, but make a mistake in Oz, you’ll end up with evil witches tracking you down.

Wacky Racers is a reboot of the late 1960’s Hanna-Barbara animated classic series of the same name, everyone favourite racers have returned to the track to race again. A Wacky Racers race isn’t any ordinary race, every car has unique race-winning abilities, it’s not necessary the fastest racer who wins. Returning to the reboot include Penelope Pitstop in the Compact Pussycat, the girl with Southern charm and always willing to help out the other racers. Penelope’s best friend is Peter Perfect he has a big heart (and not forgetting a big ego), but he’s always positive and determined to his best. Everyone’s favourite racing villains – Dick Dastardy and Muttley are back yet to scheme again, they always attempt to sabotage the race, but their dastardly plans always backfire on them. The Gruesome Twosome are racing once again in the Doombuggy, practically a small haunted house on wheels, it can literally be referred to as a “Monster” truck. The new series will also feature new racers, new vehicles and different race locations from all over the world. The new series will have the same slapstick humour and high-octane craziness of the original series.

Following the recent announcement of a stand-alone US Boomerang premium subscription streaming service, Turner International has today revealed details of two highly-anticipated WB Animation original new series, Dorothy & the Wizard of Oz and Wacky Races. The two series will join the line-up of classic and contemporary animation for the company’s second flagship international kids channel Boomerang from June 2017. Dorothy & the Wizard of Oz is an uplifting comedic fantasy series based on the classic L. Boomerang UK Scooby-Doo! Moon Monster Madness Premieres 13th May

Tomorrow (13/05/2017) at 10am, Boomerang UK and Ireland will premiere the Scooby-Doo! movie – Scooby-Doo! Moon Monster Madness. Scooby and the mystery gang are about to embark on a space adventure and boldly go where no man (or dog) has gone before. In the movie, Daphne and Velma win tickets for a trip into outer space on a brand new space shuttle in a lottery and they invite Scooby, Shaggy and Fred to come along.

However on the trip, a mysterious alien forces the ship to land on the space shuttle owner’s space resort on the dark side of the moon. Eventually, the mystery gang manage to catch the “alien”, but things are not as they seem. The gang gets trapped and they find out that the resort has been planted with explosives, will the gang escape safely and find a way back to Earth?

DC Super Hero Girls Series Premieres On Cartoon Network USA In 2018

Cartoon Network USA will be airing a brand new animated series in 2018 from Warner Bros. Animation called DC Super Hero Girls. The brand new animated show originates from a YouTube short animation series which started in 2015 and is also based on the DC Super Hero Girls: Super Hero High special which aired on Boomerang USA in March last year and on Boomerang UK last May.

DC Super Hero Girls, which follows not-so-typical teenagers Diana, Kara and Barbara better known by their superhero names Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Batgirl attend a school just for superheroes. While not in class, they’re busy protecting the city of Metropolis from some of the most fearsome school-aged supervillians of the DC Comics Universe. Being a young superhero is not easy, especially as they have to balance their time between a social life, their families, their studies and saving the city. Other characters from the DC Comics universe featured in the show include Bumblebee, Zatanna, Jessica Cruz (Green Lantern), Katana and Harley Quinn.

Emmy award–winning producer Lauren Faust will be working on the show as a producer, character designer and storywriter. Lauren Faust is known for her work on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls (original version) and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends). Sam Register – the president of Warner Bros’ Animation will be working on the show’s production team as executive producer.

Cartoon Network has been closing the gender gap on their channel lately in an attempt to attract more girls with new shows such as Unikitty! from Lego and Warner Bros. Animation and the reboot of Cartoon Network’s very own The Powerpuff Girls last year. At present, Cartoon Network is considered to be a boy-focused but girl-inclusive channel.

Boomerang EMEA Announces The Happos Family Season 2

Turner Broadcasting System Europe, owners of the animation channel – Boomerang has announced that their first ever original series – The Happos Family has been renewed for a second season. Turner released the press release during the 2017 Licensing Expo in Las Vegas this week (23/05/2017 – 25/05/2017). The new season will feature seven-minute long episodes (episodes had a 2.5-minute runtime in season 1), longer episodes mean longer adventures with the loveable Happos characters at the safari park, each with their own personality and theme. A total of twenty-five episodes will be made for season two. Digital content will be released alongside the premiere of the new season, digital content includes the popular Boomerang Make n’ Race app which also features Boomerang favourites Scooby-Doo and Tom and Jerry.

Season two of The Happos Family will launch on Boomerang feeds within the Europe, Middle East and Africa region starting from January next year. The new season will also be welcoming three new Happos: Football Happo, Scientist Happo and Acrobat Happo. The show is created in partnership with Italian chocolate company Ferraro, known for Ferraro Rocher, Kinder Surprise and Happy Hippos. Season two will be animated by Cyber Group Studios in France, the studio is also co-producing another animated show with Turner – Taffy, which is due to premiere next year. Season one was animated by Spider Eye in Cornwall, England.

The show has no dialogue which means the show doesn’t require any dubbing and translating making it easier for international distribution. Apart from Boomerang’s international channels, the show has premiered on POGO in India and free-to-air channel Karusel in Russia, reaching more than 88 million. The show has a diverse range of characters such as Astro Happo who has an aspiration to fly to the moon, the daredevil Stunt Happo, Party Happo, Ballerina and Bollywood. The show is referred to having slapstick humour with lots of heart.

Turner EMEA announced today (24/05/2017) that it has greenlit a second season of its first ever Boomerang Original, The Happos Family – this time featuring longer adventures with the loveable Happos characters, as well as a raft of new digital content.

Series two, made up of 25 x 7-minute non-dialogue episodes, will launch on Boomerang channels from January 2018, and will introduce three brand-new characters to the family set-up: Football Happo, Scientist Happo and Acrobat Happo. It has been created in partnership with world-renowned Italian corporation Ferrero and will be produced by leading European animation company Cyber Group Studios (headquartered in Paris), with whom Turner recently signed a co-production deal for another new Boomerang series, Taffy.

Following a first series of 20 x 2 ½ minute shorts – which has launched on Turner Kids channel POGO (South Asia) and free-to-air channel Karusel (Russia), as well as Boomerang channels globally, reaching more than 88M viewers to date* – series two will offer kids and families the chance to become better acquainted with each of the unique and hilarious Happos and the safari park in which they live, where just about anything seems possible. Whether it’s Astro Happo longing to fly to the moon, or Stunt Happo attempting a daredevil feat, or Party Happo in a dance off with Ballerina and Bollywood, each storyline is laugh-out-loud, slapstick comedy with lots of heart.

In addition to the linear roll-out, the Happos characters will appear across a variety of interactive digital platforms, including the popular Boomerang Make n’ Race app (more than 20M downloads worldwide) alongside other Boomerang favourite characters Scooby-Doo and Tom and Jerry.

The Happos Family follows the lives of a family of Happos who live in an enclosure in a safari park. In the morning the park is open to human visitors who drive past the Happos, taking pictures of them wallowing in the mud, lazing by the pool, sleeping in the shade of the tree. When the last car races out of the safari park and the gates are shut to all visitors, the Happos jump up out of the mud, wake up from their snoozing and get dressed up. It’s now their time for crazy, zany, Happo adventures.

Boomerang UK New In Late May Early June 2017

Boomerang UK and Ireland will be airing new episodes featuring the channel’s most infamous characters – Scooby-Doo and Tom and Jerry. Starting off from the late May/early June half-term school holidays next week, Boomerang UK will be airing new episodes of Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! from Monday 29th May at 9am, monsters beware!, the best mystery solving gang in the business is back!.

The chaotic cat and manic mouse duo – Tom and Jerry are back in new episodes of The Tom and Jerry Show starting from Monday 5th June at 5.30pm.

Steven Spielberg Returns For New Animaniacs Series

Yesterday (30/05/2017), it was announced that the legendary and multiple Oscar-winning Hollywood director – Steven Spielberg will be working on a new rebooted series of Warner Bros. Animation’s Animaniacs. The popular 1990’s animated show, mostly follows three zany 1930’s cartoon stars named collectively as the Warners: Yakko, Wakko, and Dot, they were locked away in the Warner Bros. Studios water tower but when they escaped they cause all sorts of mayhem and trouble around the studio lot. The show also spawned a popular spin-off animated show called Pinky and The Brain, a show about two laboratory mice who plot to takeover the world, one of them is a genius and other is dimwitted.

Prior to Animaniacs, Steven Spielberg was also the talent behind Warner Bros. Animation’s Tiny Toons Adventures, a show about young cartoon characters attending a “Looniversity” studying on how to become the next generation of Looney Tunes stars, the show featured the usual slapstick humour with loads of references to Looney Tunes cartoons.

Animaniacs, Tiny Toons Adventures and Pinky and the Brain were aired later on Cartoon Network USA and UK in the late 90’s-early 00’s.

The reboot is currently in the preliminary stages and it’s not presently known if Cartoon Network or Boomerang will air the new series (or even add Animaniacs to Boomerang’s new streaming service in the U.S. along with the classic episodes) if production fully goes ahead. However, knowing the close relationship between Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. under the same parent company, it seems likely.

New The ZhuZhus Broadcasting Rights Deal For Turner UK, Nordics And France

Canadian children’s television production company – Nelvana (owned by Corus Communications) has signed a broadcasting rights deal with Turner UK, Nordics and France to air The ZhuZhus, an animated show about a gang of adventurous talking hamsters with diverse personalities and also their owner – Frankie. The deal includes brand new episodes that will air later in the year.

In addition to new episodes of The ZhuZhus on Boomerang UK and on Turner’s kids channels in France during June (with even more coming in November), the show will also debut in the Nordic region this October. The ZhuZhus premiered on Boomerang UK and Ireland last month and new episodes are airing in Boomerang UK’s New Saturdays programming block.

Boomerang UK And Boomerang France Father’s Day Weekend Events

Tomorrow (17/06/2017), Boomerang France will be organising a Father’s Day weekend event in Paris for the whole family called the “Barbichette Cup” competition, the event will take place from 10am at the Parvis Myboat in the Parc de La Villette, from 10am there will be a make-up workshop, balloon sculptures, quizzes and other challenges. The actual competition will start at 2pm, where contestants will take part in a game called “La Barbichette”, a game that involve contestants holding each others chin, staring at each other and making funny faces for one minute, the first one who laughs loses and gets knocked out the competition.
